SERIOUS RELATIONSHIP EFFECT STUDENT PERFORMANCE IN STUDY

Assalamualaikum..........
Another issue that i would like to discuss is having serious relationship effect student performance in their study. Here, I am not saying it effect in a negative aspect or positive given that it effect in both way. It is ourselves that will determine how it will shape our life. It is not denying that most student nowdays have a serious relationship with their couple and some of them get engaged. In our culture, it is a positive image when they get engaged given that it shows they are serious and parents expect that they will never do something wrong. However, what about their study? can they focus in their study and perform well? The answer is it depends on our selves. I have a friend that get engaged will study. I can see that she's happy with her choice. For her, couple or get engaged does not disrupt her study given that she know on how to manage her time. instead, her fiancee always support her to perform well in her study. Although she's almost give up because of health problem, her fiance advice her to still finishing her study and because of her family and fiance hope, she still continue her study. Here we can see that it give positive effect. But don't forgot, some teenager run away from college just because of obsesses with their couple. Feel free to leave your comment.

CELEBRATION INDEPENDENCE DAY VIDEO

PICTURE OF CELEBRATION

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Assalamualaikum W.B.T
Every year there is a lot of festival that our country celebrates and one of it is Independence Day celebration that becomes compulsory to celebrate it on 31th August every year. The intension of this celebration is to remember and to pay our respect to our respected warrior. The question is, the way that we celebrate either government, NGO, or public especially teenagers are relevant and citizen can really understand the meaning of Independence Day? The issue that I would like to stress is, does it acceptable if I state that Independence Day celebration contribute to the increasing number of social problem among teenagers? I am saying like this given that, we celebrate that day with a lot of concert that male and female mix together, no limitations and lot of freedom. There is a rumors which state that “After the celebration, the cleaner people found condom everywhere around the area of celebration location.” Does anyone can expect what’s going on the celebration night to our teenagers? A part from that, we can see teenagers are hugging each other male n female; couples are kissing and many more. Is this something still can’t be consider as a social ill. Maybe not for certain people but have ever thought that, from this action can lead to other social ill among societies. In this situation, are we going to blame each other instead of find the solution of the problem? I let you all to answer that question and also the five questions. Think about it deeply and feel free to comment and share your opinion rationally.

Critical Literacy subject clearly had exposed me to the critical thinking about what happen around the world. Its mean that, I had to learn to analyze the think specifically. On the other words, it makes me become critical thinker. I had learnt all the important aspect especially about the 10 elements. Another things is, I also love to learn this subject with sporting lecturer who is Madam Yaya. Thanks a lot to her for never give up in teaching and guide me. Although at the first time it is difficult for me to understand this subject, I manage to handle the difficulties with the help from Madam Yaya and friends.

REFLECTION ON DRUGS OR GUNS

This article is all about the two legal cases that are been faced by the South African government. The two cases are the weapons-acquisition deal and making anti-retroviral drugs freely available to all HIV-positive pregnant women in the country. However, from my understand, the government seems ignore about the drugs issue maybe the government might think that, by making anti-retroviral drugs freely available can cost a lot of money to government and the government can’t gain benefit. On the other hand, the weapon-acquisition deal can gain benefit to the government whereby the deal are link between the South African government and big country such as British, Swedish, German and Italian suppliers.

READING 5 (JOURNAL ENTRY)

Reading 5.1 (Australia’s Methadone Mess)

Methadone-a government-sanctioned narcotic- is dispensed free or at a very low cost to over 23,000 heroin addicts in public and private clinics and pharmacies across Australia that works by activating the brain’s opiate receptors. Methadone does not really help drugs addicted given that the drugs addicted continued to inject heroin and overdose of Methadone can harm the patient. Injected of Methadone may also increased the risk to be affected viral diseases like HIV. Methadone program cannot help because it’s just like replacing one narcotic with another given that Methadone is one of the drugs. The only way that can help addicts to live a normal life is quitting by a long-term rehabilitation in which addicts receive counseling for the problem that prompted them to use drugs in the first place.

Reading 5.2 (Out of Puff)

This article is about smoking issue among female. From the article, more and more female become smoker. They don’t see the link between their action today and the consequences tomorrow. This is because, smoking give a lot of bad affects to the women especially a greater risk of miscarriage, breast and skin cancer and also impact on fertility and menstruation as well as harm unborn babies. Most female smoking because they believe smoking can reduce their weight and if they stop smoking, they gain some weight. However, it doesn’t matter how little they smoke or what type of cigarette they choose, smoking can kills. Smokers can seek help from the Nicotine replacement Therapy, Medication or support.

CRITICAL LITERACY (JOURNAL ENTRY)

READING 5.3, GROUP 10 (TYPES OF EXPOSITION: “PERSUADING THAT” AND PERSUADING TO”)
Group 10, Tixxs and Shima had present about types of exposition. Their presentation is quite okay although they are a little bit nervous. However, still they can answer the entire question that has been asked by others members. Well, from the discussion, there are three types of exposition. First is Analytical and Hortatory exposition that is the focal elements of an exposition, second is reasoning in exposition which is used to explain why and must state the reason. Last is personality in exposition that is used to express attitudes and feelings. In expository writing, metaphor is typically found.

READING 5.4, GROUP 11 (METAPHOR)
Group 11, had present about metaphor. These groups have three presenters, however only Mariam that presents this topic. I don’t know what happened to the other two members. But, I’m proud of Mariam, because she managed to control the entire situation although she’s alone. Honestly, I don’t understand what Mariam was discussed last day. There are a few key term that I can’t understand such as metaphor in diacourse, the container metaphor and metaphor in ‘nukespeak’. I’m confused with the word nukespeak, what it is really about. When I asked Mariam, she’s can’t answer it because she’s also don’t understand.

CRITICAL LITERACY (JOURNAL ENTRY)

HOMEWORK

READING 4.1. (BODY LANGUAGE THAT SPEAKS TO MUGGERS)
In this article, the writer discuss about the body language that speaks to muggers. This topic based on the research that has been done by two New York psychologists, Betty Grayson and Morris Stein, who got “muggability” ratings of 60 New York City pedestrians from the people who may be most qualified to judge-prison inmates. From the research, they came out that each person use of 26 movements that form basic components in Labanalysis,a common system for describing and notating movement. Well, from my point of view, I am agreeing that the muggers can read victim’s body language. From the victim’s body language, the muggers can easily detect either that person can easily or not for been their victim.

JOURNAL ENTRY

READING 4.3, GROUP 7 (WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE?)
Group 7 was presented about “what is the evidence4?” I can say that their presentation is quite okay although lack of preparation. Evidence has a lot of meaning and it depends to the situation on how to define the term of evidence. The meanings of the evidence are, the fact, signs, or objects that make you believe that something is true. Besides that, evidence also can be defined as a information that is used in court in order to try to prove something.

READING 4.4, GROUP 8 (STATISTIC)
ON FEB 9, my group CTZ and ANNE had present on topic 8 “statistic”. We have well prepared and try our best for the presentation. Statistic has two meaning. In plural verbs it refers information about any phenomenon or activity expressed in numerical form. On the other hand, in singular sense it denotes the art and science of collecting, presenting, analyzing and interpreting numerical data. Unqualified averages, fallacious sampling, percentages unaccompanied by actual number and misleading presentation are the factors that lead to the consciously or unconsciously statistic.

READING 4.5, GROUP 9 (CROOKED AND FALLACIOUS THINKING)
Group 9, Anis and Sern had present about Crooked and Fallacious thinking. I just can say that this group doesn’t have the group coheviness. Sern doesn’t help Anis at all. Generally, crooked is something that is dishonest and fallacious thinking is a wrong information that can lead to the misunderstanding. Transfer device is use to attract people, circular argument is to make conclusion at the 1st sight and false analogy is used to support an argument.

CL (HOMEWORK 2)

HOMEWORK 2
READING 3.1 (PLEASE, LET ME GO YOUR SCHOOL)

From the article “Please let me go to your school”, Scarlett Finney a daughter of Scott and Bernadette Finney was being discrimination by The Hills Grammer School. She was being discriminated because of her disabilities by having spina bifida that forces her to use wheelchair. Scarlet was born with a lesion in her spine that has caused paralysis of the feet and incontinence. The Hills Grammer School refused to accept her because at that school even kindergarten children had to move many times a day. However, the parents defend their daughter by saying that Scarlett is able to walk short distances, and use ordinary toilets. It is clear from what the writer had wrote that Scarlett is an independent child and should be given a chance for her to study there.

READING 3.3 (CRITICAL LITERACY, “ A LINGUISTIC PERSPECTIVE”)

Group 5, Faiz and Fiqa had present topic 5. from the discussion, Critical literacy is a linguistic perspective that in a text should consist five important elements they are genre, field, mode, tenor, and ideology. To identify either a text is a discussion is, it have positive and negative about a certain idea, while for report, it is a straight forward text. It does not discuss about positive or negative of the idea. This chapter also discuss about ideological position. Ideological position also can be divided into two they are overt and covert. Overt can be defined as a open or shown openly while covert cover about thick undergrowth where animals hide. As a conclusion, this topic illustrate some explicit knowledge about language.

READING 3.4 (SPEECH AND SPEAKERS: THE FORMATION OF INDIVIDUALS IN DISCOURSE AND GENRE)

Group 6, Eqin and Ain had present topic 6. From my understanding, this topic is all about the difference act towards different gender and sexism. It is also related with discrimination towards certain people because of their weaknesses. The thing that should be stress in this topic is about discourse. Discourse can be defined as a serious speech, piece of writing or serious conversation. Under discourse is sexism which is the unfair treatment of people towards certain person. For example, there are two female are apply for the job. Female A is a very attractive person, have a good look and figure. On the other hand female B is a low profile person but have a lot of experiences. However, female A is the one that manage to get the job. This is what we call sexism discourse generally.

CRITICAL LITERACY: HOMEWORK 1

READING 2.1 (BATTLING THE BULLIES)

Write your reflection, focuses on perspective only.

From the article BattlingThe Bullies, at first the writer seems like to condemn the school that Ms. Watson being bullied. She’s condemn the action that has been taken by school side that arranged a series of meeting between the victim and the bully. This is because, the meeting did not resolve the problem but become more worst. Besides that, the writer also advocate to the reader on how to deals with bullying cases. For example, the writer pick out an expert suggestion that is school need to have an anti-bully policy in place and support from profesional counsellors and advise parents to ask how a school deals with bullying before enrolling the child.

(117 words)

CRITICAL LITERACY: SECOND ENTRY

JOURNAL ENTRY (2)

On Friday class, 30 January 2009, the third group had present the chapter 3 that is “Language, Perspective and Ideology”. From the discussion, language is a word that used by writer which convey a certain message. The language that being used can described the writer perspective. Meaning that, language can influence the reader on how to think about the writer perspective. Perspective is the position or stance from which something is viewed by the writer. From the text, there are two type of perspective. There are white perspective and black perspective. White perspective occur at the second word of the text and can only be accepted by white audience given that white people prefer to use unpolite and harsh word. On the other hand, black perspective prefer to use an appropriate word that can be say something that a national, political or social philosophy of belief system. However, ideological still can be something that we think that related with perspective and language. At the same day, the fourth group also had present the chapter 4 that is “Texts and textualities”. Text is a combination of signs thath have various meaning for different group of people. Text always socially constructed to the certain meaning. There is a few word that should be stress that is connotation ‘a meaning or connection which is implied for a person a group’. When signs and connotation appear ‘normal’, this is because the text present itself as truthful, and as a vehicle for eternal or naturalised codings of social meanings and values. Textual analysis is we analazing the text.

CRITICAL LITERACY: FIRST ENTRY

FIRST ENTRY

For the first week of Critical Literacy classes, I’ve learned the introduction for this subject and the course outlined. Our lecture for this subject is Madam Rubayah or Madam Yaya. My first impression towards her is, she’s a strict person. Somehow, after we have a small ice-breaking, my first impression 100 % wrong towards her. Instead I’m feel happy and thankful to Allah to have her as my lecture.
For me, this subject is quite tough subject especially the word “critical”. At first I felt quite scared with this subject but after being explained by Madam Yaya, I’m felt released because with her guide and explanation, I believed that I can complete all the assessment on time.
Madam Yaya already explained in the class about the assessment. There are portfolio, critical respon, critical review and blog which is we have to provide 10 entry. Last but not least is presentation in class based on the topic that we have choose. My partner and I heve choose chapter 8 that is on week 9.
For chapter one that was been present by group Adini, and his two other members, Efa and Slay. Chapter one is about “Stories and Facts”. Lucky for me because I’ve already read it by myself before they presented in the class. I’ve already understand a little bit about chapter one. This is because, from Adini’s group presentation, I can’t understand what they’re discuss. It’s clear shows that their group was not prepared well. However, Adini was good because he can explain very well to us.
From the chapter 1 “Stories and Facts”, it consist a few subtopic there are, Recounts, Procedure writing, Report writing, Creativity and Imagination in Factual writing, Developing Report writing, Explanations, Sexism and Factual writing and Exposition. From my understanding, I can summarise that procedure is how something is done, description is what some particular thing is like, explanation is a reason why a judgement has been made and last but not least is exposition that is arguments why a thesis has been proposed.
While, chapter two was been present by Nabila’s group and her other two members Alia and Yana. Rules and regulations is the title for chapter two. It’s difficult for me to understand because I dont have enough time to read it given that both chapter one and two were been presen on the same day. However, still I can catch up a little bit. Rules can be devided into two parts there are imperative and declarative. Imperative meaning that it give command and serious while declarative sound polite and formal. Regulations ia s rule or instruction that must be obeyed by each individual. It is made according to offial rules.
So far, I still can catch up the learning of this subject. I just hope, for the next chapter I’m able to read it first before presentation day. Besides that, for my presentation, I hope I can do the best because it give me 15 marks. It’s not a simple thing that I can play around.
